Band Aid /Do They Know It's Christmas

 

1984년 당시 이디오피아는 심각한 식량부족 현상으로 인해 많은 난민들이 죽어가고 있었다.

이에 세계의 많은 민간 단체들은 이디오피아를 돕기위한 갖은 방법을 동원하여 모금운동을 펼쳤고,

이러한 여파로 영국의 아티스트들은 밥 겔도프 주도하에 이디오피아 난민을 돕기위한 프로젝트 그룹

Band Aid를 결성하여 84년 크리스마스를 즘하여 'Do They Know It's Christmas?'라는 싱글 앨범을

발표하고 본격적인 자선행사를 추진하게 된다.

기라성 같은  영국 가수들인 폴 영, 필 콜린스, 듀란듀란의 존테일러, 닉 로즈, 조지 마이클,

퀸의 드러머 로저 테일러, 스팅, 폴 메카트니, 컬쳐클럽의 보이 조지, 데이빗 보위를 비롯하여 

약 40명의 아티스트가 참여한 이 프로젝드로 밥 겔도프는 노벨 평화상 후보로 올랐고

 영국 황실로부터 기사 작위를 받았다.

 

어제 올렸던 미국 팝 뮤지션들이 중심이 된  'USA For Africa'라는 프로젝트 그룹의 We Are The World

발표 계기가 되었던 영국 아티스트들이 중심이 된 Band Aid의 Do They Know It's Christmas를 올린다.

1984년 Bob Geldof가 중심이 되어 구성하였던 Band Aid는 아프리카의 굶주리는 아동들을 위한 자선 컨서트 중심의 활동을 하였으며 그해 발표하였던 Do They Know It's Christmas가 영국의 크리스마스 차트 1위에 오르며 유명세를 타게 되었다. 그후 이곡은 89년에 다시 취입되어 당시 차트 1위에 재등극하였고 2004년 20주년을 맞아  다른 객원가수들을 영입해 재취입되여 2004년 크리스마스 챠트 1위에 재등극하였다.

아프리카 난민들을 위해 구성되었던 Band Aid, 1984년 처음 발표된 Do They Know

It's Christmas의 20주년을 맞아 2004년 새로 결성된 Band Aid 20의 리메이크곡입니다.

최초에 이를 기획하였던 그룹 Boomtown Rats의 리더 Sir Bob Geldorf가 다시 제작하고

Sir Paul McCartney외 많은 뮤지션들이 참여하고 있습니다.

"그곳에는 강도 메마르고 비도 오지 않아 물기라고는

그들이 흘리는 눈물 뿐이고,

크리스마스 종소리 대신에 죽음을 알리는 만종뿐...

그들은 과연 크리스마스 계절이 왔다는 사실을 알기나 할까?"

굶주리는 그들에게 식량을 보내 진정 성탄이 왔다는 것을 알립시다.
