어둠이 짙어지오니, 주여 저와 함께 하소서.
아무도 저를 도와 줄 사람이 없고, 아무런 위로도 제게 없을 때
저의 무력함을 도우소서. 오, 주여 저와 함께 하소서.

당신의 십자가를 내 감긴 눈 앞에 들어 주소서.
어둠을 뚫고 빛을 비추시어,제게 하늘을 보이소서.

William Henry Monk (1823 - 1889) 
영국 런던에서 태어남
1874년 King’s College에서, 1876년에는 National Training School for
Music에서 성악 선생을 하였으며 1878년에는 Bedford College에서 가르쳤다.
또한  영국 St. Matthias 성당의 음악감독으로 재직하며 많은 성가를 작곡하였다.
