V.A. / Down in The Willow Garden

 

어제 Down by The Salley Garden을 소개하였는데 오늘은 이와 제목 그리고 첫 행이 비슷한

Down in the Willow Garden을 소개한다.

Rose Connelly라는 제목으로도 알려진 이곡은 연인을 칼로 찔러 죽인 죄로 교수형에 처해질 사나이에 대한

내용인데  제목뿐 아니라 첫 줄이  W. B. Yeats의 1899년작 시 "Down by the Salley Gardens"와

거의 같은 점은 둘다 아일랜드의 구전으로 전해내려오던 같은 시에 근거했기 때문일지도 모른다.

연인을 잔인하게 살해한 살인범에 관한 노래이지만 멜로디는 의외로 아름다운 이곡을 감상해 보시기 바란다.
