Shelby F. "Sheb" Wooley (April 10, 1921 – September 16, 2003)

미국 Oklahoma주에서 태어난 가수 겸 배우로 영화 High Noon, The Outlaw Josey Wales,

그리고 TV 시리즈 Rawhide에 Clint Eastwood와 공연하기도 하였다.

가수로는 Ben Colder라는 이름으로도 활동하며 The Purple People Eater

 (빌보드 챠트 1위), That's My Pa (빌보드 컨츄리 챠트 1위) 등의 히트곡을 발표하였다.

Sheb Wooley의 자작곡으로 1961년 말경 발표되어 1962년 빌보드 컨츄리 챠트 1위에

오른 곡으로 내가 컨츄리 웨스턴 음악에 빠지게 된 계기가 된 곡이다.

1960년부터 팝쏭을 즐겨 듣기 시작하였을 때만 해도 컨츄리 팝이나 컨츄리 락을

제외하고 본격적인 컨츄리는 그다지 매력을 느끼지 못하던중 블루그래스 스타일의

 밴조 반주가 흐르는 이곡을 처음 듣고 컨츄리 음악의 매력에 끌리게 된 곡이다.

그간 이곡을 찾기 위해 수십년간 모든 음원 사이트를 헤맸지만 못찾았는데 최근에

유튜브에서 발견하여 반가운 마음으로 이곡을 소개한다.

on Saturday, Pa'd take it all to town.

 Now we'd go out to meet him, With a lantern light,
