어제 Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport를 소개한데  이어 호주에 관한 재미있는

노래 한곡 더 소개한다.

내용은 추장의 아들이 부머랭을 다룰줄 몰라 그가 던지는 부머랭이 돌아오지 않는다는

재미있는 설정인데 그래서 마을에서 3~4개월 추방되어 황야를 떠돌던 중 주술사를 만나

던지는 법을 터득하여 비행기를 추락시킨다는 터무니 없는 내용이다.

주술사로부터 그가 배운 묘수라는 것은 돌아오게 하기 위해서는 먼저 던져야한다는 점이였다.

던지지 않으면 절대 돌아올수 없다는 간단하면서도 명백한 진리를.....

역시 코미디언 다운 노래이다.ㅎㅎㅎ

 

 Tie Me Kangaroo Down, Sport에서도 언급된 Didgeridoo라는 호주 원주민들이 부는

긴 나팔소리가 도입부분 부터 곡 전체에 계속 깔리며 베이스 효과를 내는 점이 재미있고 특이한데

사실은 Didgeridoo를 직접 연주한 것은 아니고 기계조작으로 이 음을 만들어낸 것이라 한다.

후에 Beatles의 제작자로 유명해진 George Martin이 제작한 음반으로 호주에서 1961년

챠트 1위에 등극하였는데 막상  Charlie Drake의 모국인 영국에서는 가사내용의 호주 원주민에

대한 모욕적인 표현으로 BBC 방송국의방송이 불허 되었다 가사를 blue in the face로 개사하여

재발표된 후 챠트 14위에 올랐고 미국에서는 개사된 가사 버젼에 중간의 대화와 음향효과를

삭제한 2:44 버젼으로 발표되어 1962년 초 빌보드챠트 21위에 올랐다.

한편 카나다에서는 미국과 영국보다 더 인기를 누려 챠트 3위까지 올랐다.

영국의 코미디언, 배우 겸 가수

약 155Cm (5ft 1inch)의 작은 키에 붉은 곱슬머리로 특히 어린이들에게 큰 인기를 누렸다.

 

한편 아래 가자중 문제가 되었던 가사 부분은 기울임체 부분이다.
