(결국 그녀는 정신병원에 수용되었음) 때문에 이곡을 작곡하였다고 하는바 스토커의
덕으로 이러한 엄청난 대작이 태어났다는 점은 정말 아리러니가 아닐할수 없다. 가사중 Billie Jean is not my lover...the kid is not my son이라고 그의 결백을
증명하기 위해 이곡을 썼는데 이곡으로 수퍼스타의 대열에 오르게 되었으니....
이 레코드의 공동 제작자였던 Quincy Jones는 제목이 당시 테니스 스타인 Billy Jean
King 여사를 지칭하는 것으로 오해받을 소지가 있으며 도입부가 너무 긴점을
지적하였으나 도입부에 마이클이 춤실력을 발휘할수 있다는 점을 감안하여
마이클의 주장대로 그대로 발표되었다고 한다. 또한 마이클 잭슨의 트레이드 마크가된 뒤로 미끄러지듯 걷는 Moonwalk 춤을
이곡으로 처음으로 선보였다. 1983년 발표된 이곡은 미국과 영국을 비롯하여 주요국 챠트 수위에 오르며
그를 댄스 뮤직의 황제로 군림하게 되는 계기를 마련한 곡으로
1984년 Grammy상과 Beat It와 함께 그해의 레코드로 선정된 곡이다.
