What an adorably clumsy baby elephant! Despite their massive size, baby elephants take a long time to
reach adulthood so they have years of youthful antics to look forward to. Elephants take their time to grow
and mature emotionally and may be between 15 and 20 years old before they cross over into adulthood.
That’s about as long as it takes a human baby to become a mature adult. Elephants also have the longest
pregnancy of all mammals. Elephant mothers carry their young for more than a year and a half before giving birth.

정말 사랑스럽고 칠칠맞지 못한 아기 코끼리군요!
거대한 몸집에도 불구하고, 아기 코끼리는 성인기에 도달하는 데 오랜 시간이

걸리므로 오랜세월동안 어린 장난을 한다.
코끼리는 감정적으로 성장하고 성숙하기 위해 15년 내지 20년이 걸릴수 있다.
인간이 태어나 성인이 되기까지 필요한 기간과 비슷하다.
어미 코끼리의 임신 기간은 약 1년 반 이상 소요되어 모든 포유류 중에서 가장 길다.

This 28-foot crocodile was shot and killed in Queensland in 1957 by a female croc hunter! Krystina Pawlowski
was a Polish immigrant who moved to Australia and earned a reputation as an accomplished crocodile hunter.
The local media loved the pretty blonde who wore outback khakis and bright, red lipstick. Krystina Pawlowski
gained national attention when she shot and killed this monster crocodile with a single shot, earning her the
nickname one Shot. The massive size of this crocodile attracted world-wide attention. A beast of this size is
uncommon in Queensland. In fact, this kill earned Pawlowski a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records.

이 28피트짜리 악어는 1957년 퀸즐랜드에서 여성 악어 사냥꾼의 총에 사살되었다!

악어 사냥꾼으로 명성을 얻은  호주로 이주한 폴란드 이민자 크리스티나 포울로스키였다.

 현지 사람들은 카키복을 즐겨 입고 밝고 빨간 립스틱을 바르고 다니던 그녀를 좋아했다.

크리스티나 포울로스키는  단한발의 총알로 이 괴물 악어를 쏘아 죽여 전국적인 주목을

받았고 그로 인해 '완샷'이라는 별명을 얻게 되었다. 이 거대한 크기의 악어는 

전 세계적으로 주목을 끌었다. 이 크기의 악어는 퀸즐랜드에서는 흔치 않은 일이였다.

이 사냥으로 Pawlowski는 기네스 북 기록에 올랐다.

Bear attacks on human are rare, despite what this photo and dramatic news reports say.

Visitors to the backwoods of Alaska are more apt to die from bee stings and snake bites

 than they are to be mauls by a bear, yet we fear bears more than bees and snakes.

Humans have a primal fear of being eaten by a wild animal, like a bear.

This may be an involuntary fear left over from our pioneer days.

Still, anytime we venture into the natural habitat of a wild animal, especially an apex predator,

we need to be on alert and avoid any sort of behavior that could provoke an attack..

perhaps, riding a bike.

이 사진과 극적인 뉴스 보도에도 불구하고 인간에 대한 곰 공격은 드물다.
알래스카 산을 방문하는 사람들은 사실 곰보다는 벌에 의해 쏘이거나 뱀에 물려 죽는

경우가 더 흔하지만 사람들은 벌과 뱀보다 곰을 더 두려워하는 편이다.

인간은 곰같은 야수에 의해 잡혀먹는것에 대한 원초적인 두려움을 가지고 있다.

이것은 개척시절부터 내려오는 내재적인 두려움일지도 모른다.

 야생동물의 자연 서식지, 특히 맹수의 서식지로 모험을 할 때마다 우리는 경계심을 갖고

그들의 공격을 일으킬 수 있는 행동을 피해야 한다. 아마 자전거타기를 포함해서.....

Thank goodness the Megalodon is extinct!
No one would venture into the water this giant species of shark patrolling the shores.
As this photograph shows, the megalodon was big…enormous actually!
The fossilized remained of this monster show that this animal was a killing machine.
It was built like a great white shark on steroids. The megalodon could reach nearly
60 feet in length with a biting force of more than 40,000 pounds.
The monster shark is often described as one of the largest and most powerful predators
to ever live on Earth, but thankfully, that was a long time ago.

Scientists estimate that the species died out at the end of the Pliocene era.

메갈로돈이 멸종되었다니 얼마나 다행인가!

아무도 이 거대한 상어 종들이 해안에 모습을 보인다면 감히 물속에 들어갖 않을것이다.

 이 사진에서 알 수 있듯이, 메갈로돈은 정말 엄청나다!

화석화된 이 괴물은 이 동물이 살인마임을 보여준다.

마치 스테로이드를 섭취한 거대한 백상아리 같다.

. 메갈로돈은 길이가 60피트에 턱뼈의 힘이 4만 파운드에 달하는 것으로 알려졌고

가장 크고 가장 강력한 포식자 중 하나로 알려졌다. 다행히도 오래전 일이 되었지만..

과학자들은 이들이 플라이오세 시대 말에 멸망했다고 추정한다.

Ok, so it is actually two photographs that someone masterfully merged together

under a “meanwhile, in Australia” caption. But, both incidence…

the snake sex session and the dingo dining on shark sushi really did happen.

They just happened separately. Still, both incidents are great captures.

It is not often we see a great example of steamy snake lovemaking.

As for the dingo, if that whole “dingo ate my baby” event wasn’t frightening enough,

here we have a dingo, a fierce, wild dog of Australia, casually munching on

an apex predator. one thing is for sure…

this image wasn’t endorsed by the Australian Tourism Council.

이 사진은 사실은 ‘한편 호주에서는.....’이라는 제목으로 멋지게 합성된 두 장의 사진이다 .

하지만 두 모습 모두... 뱀들의 섹스 세션과 상어 스시를 먹는 딩고 식사는 실제 발생된 일이다.

 따로따로 일어난 모습을 멋지게 합성한 것이고...

뱀들의 사랑 행위는 모처럼 보기 어려운 장면이다.

. 딩고에 관해서는, 그 "딩고가 내 아기를 먹었다"는 사건에 겁먹지 않았다면

호주의 사나운 야생견인 딩고가 무자비한 포식자인 백상아리를 씹어 먹는

모습을 본다면....

물론 호주 관광청은 이런 사진을 좋아하진 않겠지요.
